SOE Program -
Sample Lesson: Dance, Literacy and Poetry
Elements of dance are taught in order to develop students' literacy and poetry analysis skills. The ArtsBridge Scholar teaches several elements of dance (including level change, shape and gesture, personal space vs. general space, and locomotor vs. non-locomotor movement), and uses dance movements to aid students in their understanding of the poetic qualities of words. Combining instruction in both poetry and dance develops analytical, interpretive and critical thinking skills.
Sample Lesson: Music, History and Culture
This project introduces 6th-8th grade students with activities representing a diverse sampling of music genres; these range from spirituals to rap. Students are expected to take a significant level of responsibility for their own learning as they progress through project materials.
Sample Lesson: Creative Dramatics and Spoken Word
WHAT YOU SAY
ArtsBridge partners with Sacramento Area Youth Speaks (SAYS) in a project focusing on a synthesis of Spoken Word and Creative Dramatics. The project will be led by teams formed of SAYS Poet Mentors and ArtsBridge Theater Scholars, with professional development for teachers provided by the Sierra North Arts Project.
Workshops for Teachers
ArtsBridge partners with the Sierra-North Arts Project (SNAP) to provide ongoing professional development opportunities for Host Teachers.
